The verse riff plays the chord progression with some cool augmentations. Note how the strumming rhythm has slightly changed; you change to the D chord on the "and-of-2" of the measure, instead of the 3rd beat like in the intro. This is called an "anticipation", and is very common in rock music.

Watch out for the hammer-on single note riff every 2 bars, adding some nice texture to the verse. Also note that it's just the acoustic guitar adding in that Dsus2 arpeggiation in the 3rd bar of the riff.

The verse section is also interesting in that you are playing an F# major chord, but the vocal melody is based in F# minor, adding some subtle tension to the whole section.
