In this tutorial I will be using an out of phase pickup position on my strat. This means that the pickup selector switch is set to make two of the three pickups engaged at the same time.

In the video, I demonstrate the difference between a strat tone using only one pickup at a time and the out of phase setting.

Combining this setting with a very clean tone on my amp produces a smooth, rounded tone with less bark and bite than a typical strat blues sound. This will help us more clearly hear all the voices in our extended chords!
