I've always had trouble with fast descending three-note-per-string licks and scales, if I have to use alternate picking. So, normally I would use a mix of legato and picking, or, like in the example in this lesson, I would just double up everything.

When I play everything twice I end up with even groupings of notes, meaning I can start with a downstroke on each new string. Much easier for me!

Maybe you don't have a problem with playing just three notes per string, but this is also a nice way to extend your licks so you don't run out of strings as fast.
