The first of the heavy riffs in this song is based on the C natural minor scale, and features some odd time signatures.

Sometimes when I write riffs it just feels natural to use a less common time signature, instead of always playing in 4/4. The first bar is in 7/4, and the second bar in 6/4. All that means is that you count 7 quarter notes in the first bar, and then 6 quarter notes in the second bar.

Once you play with the drums and have familiarized yourself with the riff, I believe it will feel quite natural to play in these time signatures.

To tune to CADGBE, you can use the Reference Tuner and manually change the the low E to a C.

Backing Tracks

In the jam station you'll find the original backing track, up to speed (148 bpm). The mp3 on this page contains a slowed down version played at 100 bpm.
