Mike Olekshy's guitar lessons
Mike started playing guitar when he was 13 years old after hearing the
intro to Van Halen's "Aint Talkin 'Bout Love". He soon delved into
Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Rush, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, and more Van Halen
- all the '80s hair band stuff.
From a hair-band-loving youth to adult, Mike developed his skills as a live
player, session guitarist, and recording engineer. He's currently
producing and recording other artists, and writing and producing songs with his
wife J. Lauren. Mike has played and shared the stage with many artists since,
including Mike Keneally, Joe Travers, Bryan Beller, Max Morgan, Alison Ray,
Sarah Hethcoat, Alana Stone, Touched, Mother Eff, Mike Stocksdale, and more.
Mike enjoys and plays a wide variety of styles, including classic rock, classic
metal, '80s rock, '90s grunge, modern rock/metal, pop rock, and modern pop
country.

The groove in this song is the Bo Diddley beat, which is a kind of clave (clah-vey) beat. It gets played throughout the tune, both muted and wide open, with some cool leads thrown in for good measure.

![]() You Don't Love MeMike will show you the single electric guitar part in this tune that digs into a bluesy riff and some syncopated rhythms. The tune starts off establishing a mean groove and a great unison riff played by the guitar and harmonica. The verse alternates between the main riff and strumming 9th chords under the vocals while following the 12 bar blues form. The harmonica takes the only solo in the tune, so this is a great opportunity to work on your blues rhythm playing. The tune ends off with a dramatic change in dynamic, ramping back up for a rather abrupt ending.
