Hi all,

I'm working through the blues lessons and have gotten to the portion where A shape barre chords are introduced. He suggests using your ring finger to barre the D, G, and B strings, but my ring finger on my left hand won't bend backwards enough to properly do it. Does anyone have suggestions on what I could do? Do I need to just loosen it up to bend backwards or is there another technique I could use?

Hi Chrisvpruett,

Barring those middle strings can be pretty tough, especially when you have to play something on the high E string .You have to worry about not muting that E string while barring those other 3 strings.

Do it little by little and practice by not pressing too hard or bending your finger too much. It's totally okay to break up the barre chord as well to learn and get the right feel.

You can also try placing three fingers on those notes and then holding a non-barred version if that helps.

Let me know what you come up with!

Billy
