I have always had a fascination with guitars and in particular the Martin brand. I just finsihed reading the book "Inventing the American Guitar" a history of the Martin guitar and company. It was very interesting reading. Anyhow it got me to the point of purchasing a Martin D-16E rosewood from Sweetwater. So now I need to stop admiring the guitar and see if my 71 year old fingers and brain can learn to play it.

I think I've found the right place to start and have watched Lisa McCormicks beginner videos. A lot of good info, things I had never thought about with so many subtleties.

Wish me luck on this new journey in my life.

Ken

Hi Ken and welcome. I think you have definitely found the right place to start.

I'm 75 and have just completed Guitar Fundementals 1 & 2.

Lisa is amazing. Her teaching is spot on and I had little trouble learning from her. I think you will do very well.

Enjoy the journey. I wish you well in your endeavours.

All the best,

Joe

Hi Ken

Good luck - I'm new to the site too - but on having a look around it would appear that we are all in safe hands!

All the best

Thanks so much for the cordial greetings. I'm sure I will have many questions as I progress.

And, Ken, if you haven't seen it maybe you want to see this thread (or jump in).

Yes, I did see the thread and I will add to it as I get time. Right now I'm making a place to practice so I won't be interupted and my practice won't annoy others in the house. We have a "mother-in-law suite" where I can set up my laptop and watch the lessons. I have a 24 inch stool for practice while sitting as well as a good sized mirror to be able to see my self in to check for posture and see if I am any where close when placing my fingers on the frets. I will post more as I progress.

Welcome and greetings, Ken, Joe, and Garry!

SO glad to have you 'in class'!

Ken, when I was a kid, my grandparents lived in Pennsylvania near the Martin Guitar Factory. I'll never forget them bringing me there for a factory tour!

Have fun, everybody![br]-Lisa

Lisa,

The Martin factory tour is high on my list along with the Grand Ole Oprey and Graceland. My sister lives in Delaware, so maybe on a vist back down to the lower 48 we can make it happen. Tomorrow a trip up to Anchorage to pick up my wife's daughter. I will definitley stop by the Guitar Center store and browse the acoustics in the "back room" and maybe pick up a few little things I need.
