I have been trying to discover what scales to play over chords
I am a blues and metal guitarist and I want to know that scales could be used to play over chords. I come up with licks but somewhere I get lost on the neck trying to play in a pattern with scales. Can somebody give me a brief theary on scales

What you must do to figure out the song's key is examine the chord progression.
For instance:
E minor= E F# G A B C D E
IF the song's chord progression contains the chords of the scale, than you play that scale.
example: some song goes: E G A F# G E
All those chords are contained in the E minor scale, there fore play e minor, or something that works well in the same situation.
