Hi, I'am with some doubts about finding the right mode for a given chord progression, once again I was hearing a song (Speed of light by Joe Satriani)with these chords progressions D9-C9-G (verse) and Am-C-Em(chorus) ocasionally a Bm appears and I tried to figure out what mode these chords progression are in ,I think here works a mixolydian mode but I'm not completely sure, I started with the D9 chord and 'cause of its a major chord the scale working over it could be DIonian,D lydian or D mixolydian,I chose D mixolydian(D-E-F#-G-A-B-C-D),then the next chord is a C9 and it fits into the D mixolydian scale, and so on with the rest of the chord, all of them fits into the D mixolydian scale, but I'm not really sure of this, can someone help me?I'm stuck.is there other mode working over any of these chord progression?

Knowing satch its probably a mixolydian feel for the verse, and D mixolydian works over all those chords. Am works over all those chords for the chorus. try it.
