The best scales to use in reggae and ska are blues scales. Seeing how both styles use a lot of bar chords and box patterns, blues scales are just the right thing.

Also in a lot raggae they play like barre chord but only play like the first 3 high strings in a kinda short quirky rythym. Kinda like rock inside out.

If you go to cyberfret.com thay have a large section on ska that includes history, chords, and rythems. If you're looking for any info on ska you'll probably find it there.

You should know ( or learn ) the chords in your key:
in a Major key the chords follow this

I ii iii IV V vi vii(dim)

capitols are major
lowercase is minor
the vii is diminished

So if you were in the key of C
the chords would be:
Cmaj-Dmin-Emin-Fmaj-Gmaj-Amin-Bdim

Basically as long as you stick with the correct selection of M and m any progression will fit of course some will sound better than others but it will fit.
