guitar theory books

I am going to a guitar store tomorrow

and was wondering if anyone could suggest any
good guitar theory books or any soloing
books.I want to learn more about scales and
how to use them in solos.
If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

Hmm, If you really want to go the whole nine yards, get a jazz book. Doesn't have to be a guitar book. Mark Levine's Jazz piano theory book applies to guitar fine. Helps if you read standard notation. If you really want to understand harmony and scale/chord soloing, get into jazz man.

If you can special order the praxis system by howard roberts they are pretty good (3 volumes) about $60 but the best book I've ever seen is Mick Goodricks' Advancing Guitarist.

i don't know if you can get them in the USA because i live in Australia, but try the jazz theory book called "progressive jazz guitar." The whole progressive series is pretty good.

actually, goodrick's book might not be so good unless you have a lot of theory under your belt already. You might try to find the Berklee books online somewhere, at the bookstore, perhaps at Berklee?
