I just got the program, Cool Edit Pro 2.0
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can upload music, say, from a CD, and then strip certain tracks off it, to make a kareoke(sp?) CD or something.
I appreciate any response.
Thanx.

It is not possible to seperate the different instruments from a stereo track. The different instruments get mixed down to 2 tracks in the studio, which makes it impossible to seperate again them after that process.

Bummer. My friend said the the same thing, but I wanted a second opinion.
Thanx again though.

Yeah I doesn't. But you can remove the vocals with a vocal remover. They do have a plugin that doesn't that. As for individual instruments, you can play with the EQ to enhance a instrument in the mix. Like bass if you cut down the EQ except where you can hear the bass, or guitar by cutting everything but the mids. I doubt that helps but if your wanting to do this for figuring out songs, it does help.

I was actually looking to remove the guitar parts, so I could play along with the tape as if I was playing with a band. But it doesn't look like I can do that.
Anyway, thanx again for the help.

I don’t know if this helps but.. Line6 Guitar port on line subscription services have re-mixed tracks with the lead guitar mixed out that you can play along with. Unfortunately it is not free (what else would you expect from Line6!). I canceled my subscription and sold my guitar port. Not ‘cos it was a naff product but because I never used it.

I dont have the money for that stuff. Its not like I need to do this or anything though. Maybe there is some place that sells songs like that rather than offering a subscription or something.

Yeah. I was thinking about getting the Line 6 guitar port at one time but then I saw you had to pay a monthly usage fee, and well I pasted. Cool little toy though. Ok back to discussion, Josh here's another idea. It's probably less favorable but it will do what you want. You can try getting some kind of midi track software and download the Midi of a song. Then just mute out the instruments you don't want and play along with the rest. Works great but then again it's midi and not the real thing. An idea and I'd check it out.

There's and idea. I think I saw that done in a trick on this site, and I've already got a program where I can mess with midi files. Cool. I'm gonna try that. Thanx.
