Has anyone else experienced videos pausing randomly? I use a windows laptop and I thought it was my device until I tried it on my work laptop and same thing. I cannot make it through a video without it randomly pausing on its own and that makes it difficult especially when playing along to a song. I should mention that it does not happen when using my IOS device, only windows devices.

Did I post this in the wrong place?

You're asking for site-related tech support. So, as far as I know, this is the most appropriate place to post your question.

I'm using the site from a Windows computer and I've never had that problem. It does sound like something you may be able to fix by updating your graphics card video drivers.

You can also try using the forum's search feature to locate past threads that deal with video playback issues.

I get the same thing happening on an Android phone but not on a laptop running Windows 10.

I usually download whatever lesson I'm working on; that way I can also play them on my TV

I wish this forum had a "block user" feature. Possibly I'm not the only one......

I'm having the same issue with my computer & tablet for about week now starting to get frustrated. Does anyone know of any different setting to try.

1.) Click on ACCOUNT button at top of page

2.) Click Other Settings

3.) Change Preferred Video Setting from "Auto" to "720p"

The default "Auto" video setting typically results in your device/computer automatically configuring video playback to 1440p. For videos on this site 720p is a high enough resolution that you probably won't even notice the difference in picture quality but it should eliminate or at least reduce the hanging that you're experiencing.

Nice one, Nicolai. That sorted it.

Strange, but it doesn't pause on my phone on any setting apart from "Auto" (and due to screen size, doesn't really look much different, either).

Wow, you're doing tutorials on your laptop, your phone, your TV. That's commitment!

I'm convinced that manufacturers want users to think that "Auto" refers to some fancy algorithm that assures that the best video settings will be chosen for the user's specific device, when really it just means that they are mindlessly setting the display to the absolute highest resolution available for any given device.

However, I'm not the most tech saavy soul so I will confess that I can't quite figure out how you manage to watch downloaded tutorials on your TV. Are you using BlueTooth with a smart TV? or connecting your laptop/phone directly to your TV? or perhaps plugging a USB thumbdrive (containing tutorials) into your TV? WiFi through a router and ethernet connection to a desktop computer?

Tutorials on a 65 inch flatscreen with surround sound - that would be awesome! Almost like watching MTV again.

I have a Blu-ray player that also plays mp4, mkv, Avi, etc video files. It also has a usb slot, so easy to connect a memory stick or external hard drive.

56" TV, external soundbar with separate sub-woofer. Not surround sound but can make the windows rattle :)

Thanks. I gave it a go using a flash drive and now I can add bad choreography and clumsy dance moves to my high decimel riffing. I'm sure that my neighbors appreciate the free shows :)

I had to set it to 540 in order to stop the pausing but so far it is working. Thank You Nicolai!

I have the video settings set to the lowest (224p) and the videos are still randomly pausing on two different laptops and two different networks. Pretty difficult to practice along to songs with that happening, someone PLEASE HELP!

Wow, 224p? Sorry to hear that. Did this just recently start happening? In other words, were you previously able to play GT video online without pausing, on the same devices and networks? Also, do you use the same ISP (Internet Service Provider) for both networks? Does it happen only at certain times of the day?

By far, the single most common reason for videos pausing periodically or freezing is the speed of your internet connection, or rather the lack thereof. Videos use a lot of data, and it has to be transferred fast enough for the video to play smoothly. Turning down the screen resolution markedly decreases the amount of data that you need to download in order to play the video smoothly and without pauses. But freezing at 224p on a high speed internet connection? That sounds like your ISP is throttling back your throughput, at least during the busiest times during the day. You might want to contact them and ask whether they are in fact turning down the speed of your connection at their own convenience.

Try downloading a lesson onto your device/desktop computer using the "Download Lesson" button and then play it back off the hard drive. You should be able to play the videos at 720p because download speed will no longer be a factor. Being able to play video off your hard drive is a matter of processor speed, hardware drivers and RAM capacity, not download speed. Therefore, if you can play the downloaded videos without pausing, then the cause most likely has to do with your internet connection.

Keep me posted.

I neglected to suggest that you close other tabs on your browser, especially other paused videos. Multiple tabs tax both RAM and cache, and that can cause pausing of video, too.

This happens to me as well, but only using Chrome: the video stops after more or less 3 minutes of playing.

With Firefox everything is ok

****UPDATE*****

My internet provider sent a technician over to look at my modem and as it turns out it was set to 5G and not 2.4G. I believe the range was the cause and my videos have not paused in several days. I want to thank everyone for the great tips but I think my issue is resolved.
