How to best use this site for instruction.

Hi,

I just joined Guitar Tricks as a full access member. I can see that there is a lot of content, but I haven't found the step by step path advertised. I was hoping for a tutorial, either text or video. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know if you are a complete beginner John, but assuming you are a newbie, from the opening splash screen choose "Beginner Lessons". Click on the yellow "Start Here" link.

This will take you through Fundamentals 1 and F2 giving you some good basics. From there you are pretty much self directed. There are more advanced lessons and genres availble as well as techinical skills. Once you have some knowledge you will probably have more questions. The forum is a good place to look for answers and there is also the search engine which will really open the site up. Something else you should be familiar with is the Toolbox. Look for it on the left side of your screen. Lots of good stuff in here like chord and scale tools as well as jam tracks to practice with. And forgot to mention the songs. You can filter songs from Absolute Beginner through to Advanced. Lots of good stuff in here as well.

Thanks, William. Actually, I've been playing for decades and just want to take it to the next level. I guess I would be classified as intermediate. With that in mind where do you suggest I start on Guitar Tricks?

I am in a similar situation with you- I started from the very beginning-- yeah there are lessons I fast forwarded through, but there were things I learned in Fundamentals 1 and now 2 that are key building blocks that lead to the more advanced theory I am looking forward to learning.

What are your goals? What do you want to do that you can't yet?

There are 3 primary categories of tutorials on GT.

1. Core Learning System. This is an integrated step by step curriculum of lessons that start at absolute beginner. The idea here is to isolate & streamline the cirriculum all in one step-by-step process. Since you are beyond the fundamental stages, you might enjoy material from one of the Style courses.

Im also looking for a streamlined progression-path. Been a member of Jamplay before, and the sight is a mess.

Joined GT and started from the absolute beginning "Guitar fundamentals 1 and 2" (which was very good and step by step. Then I started the the Blues Guitar lessons, but seems like they also just teach the basics and then you should start covering songs.

Also thought about learning a bit of classical, but those lessons also seems like just the basics then it stops.

Im sure everything I need is in here somewhere, but would be nice with a streamline progression after just the basics.

Ive been playing on and of for almost 30 years, but mostly self tought (and mostly off). So I feel like Im missing A LOT of theory, and also the ability to make cool guitartracks and improvise over the. Im pretty much at the level where I can play a 12 bar blues, and play some basic pentatonic over it, and thats about it:)
