Thats what one of my friends does. All he does is play metallica songs all the time and a few iron maiden songs. They sound quite cool but he will never be able to create his own songs without some theory.

Its not fair though. He has one of the best marshall half stacks you can get and 4 really expensive guitars(most over £500)
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds.
