Just out of curiosity, could you record an album and not release it or let anyone else hear it and still be satisfied with your efforts?

thanks...

I don't think I could. I'm way too narcissistic. ;-)

Of course its a wonderful feeling, knowing that people are able to hear what you're doing and are getting things out of it, but when it comes to recording music for myself, thats not that most important aspect of it all. I think as a form of therapy we all write lyrics/passages that we dont necessarily have intentions of showing it to anyone, just our own personal form of release from everything life, and with music its sometimes no diferent. Its a way of reaching a higher level of creativity, and getting a better idea of what we are capable of.

With musicians today, it seems like its all about recieving the biggest re-action with enough money rolling in as a result. For me, its about provoking a re-action ithin myself, and it matters what I think.

I can't say that I'm not the least bit curious as to what everyone here things about this subject, its basically a honest question from one musician to another...

after all the effort that one has to put into making a album, i would want to know what others think of it, but i would still be satisfied with my effort.

I'm not sure I could, I'd want others to hear it. I love music and I love writing music, even music just for me, but in addition to pleasing me, I aspire to invoke emotion in others. Whether a haunting fingerpicked melody or a a screaming, soulfull solo, I love being able to move people the way it moves me.
