When I get some money saved up Im eather gonna get a Marshall or Mesa/Boogie half stack.. See I wanna Marshall because they been the best stack for along time, most metal bands used them. But Mesa/Boggie rock just ass good, but I don't think to many peepz use them, because it seams every one wants a Marshall stack lol.. So Im wondering what you guys out there recomend<--Spelling?

Go with Mesa. In mt opinion, they sound a lot better. Also, a ton of people use Mesa-Boogie amps (the ...And Justice For All, Master of Puppets, Black album tone was made with Mesa Mark-IIc amps.
Actually, since that's just my opinion, play them and decide which you like better. Try out a Blue Voodoo too, they sound really good and cost less than Marshalls or Mesas.

i think the mesa is the way to go. if you're looking for metal, mesa will blow away marshall. i have a trem-o-verb and i also have an old marshall '87 jubilee 50w, and in my opinion, the mesa kills that thing. the only thing that the mesa can't do is get you a randy rhoads-ish tone. afterall, he was a die-hard marshall user, so i guess you can't expect everything from an amp.

Also do most people use the amps dist.? Because I got some kick a** dist. pedals I still want to use.. Are dist. pedals manly for little amps with no dist.? Or can you also use them on a stack?

The onboard distortion is the reason to buy a Marshall or Mesa, if you want to use Distortion pedals primarily, go with a solid-state rig (they're much cheaper and far more reliable than a tube amp) since all you'll be using is the clean channel/effects loop. You can get a 120 watt Crate GX-1200 Half Stack (head + a 4x12 cab) for $599 from Sam Ash, you can aso Get a Full stack version of that (2 4x12 cabs) from AMS (American Musical Suppy, americanmusical.com) for $799.

You can still get a pretty killer distortion sound out of a tube amp with a pedal and the clean sound, in my opinion, is much better in a tube amp. Granted, you will be spending a little more money for the tube amp, but it might be worth it.

Sorry to reply again, but don't get me wrong, I do agree that the main reason to get a Marshall or a Mesa is for the in-amp distortion.

Yea the Marshall and Mesa amp's dist. rock. But if everyone uses the amp dist. sooner or later everyone would sound the same. I don't think you can get that many diffents sounds of dist. plus all the differnt players useing them. I wanna be a lil diffent not just sound like another. Well if I get one it will most likely be Mesa/Boogie. Not sure which one though.

you might consider getting a Boogie Studio Preamp. They were based on the old .22 cal studio amp that was considered by many people to be the best lead sound ever produced by boogie. The preamps are even better because they produce less noise but retain the killer lead sound. You can hook them up to the power amp of your choice and the cab that makes you happy. $ on about 300 for the pre and that is pretty good for a boogie. I use one and the sound is unreal -- even at low volumes using the recording outputs. But I don't consider it a high gain pre so using a good distortion pedal for a virtual third channel might be a good idea. Just some thoughts.

Try out a Dual-Rectifier. Also, try out a Mark IIc if you can find one.

Uhm, i only have one advice for you, let your ears decide!!
Nobody can tell you wich amp is best for you, this kind of thing is a matter of personal preference.

One other thing, don't limit your choice between only two brands of amps just because "everyone" plays em.

The best way of finding an amp that you really like is trying every amp you see.
Unless you are loaded of course, then you can buy every amp available, and throw away the ones you dont like, lol

Well I don't plan on getting one for a while. So I got time. It's just I can't go listen to diffent amps. The only guitar store is an hour away. Until I get my car I wont be going there any time soon.

I hear ya! Im planning on buying a new amp, but the local stores only have one or two different models (tube heads).
So i'll have to make a 3 hour trip to a bigger store, where i can try alot of different models (i hope).

OSPunk - take your main geetar with u when u goto try out these amps, dont use a store guitar.

Like what peeps said before.. just cos everyone & their dog seems to be using MArshalls or MB's trust your ears.. chances are that those bands u like with MArshalls & MB's in the video's or playing live, have used a totaly different rig in the studio.

Playing "live" is a one off, the studio is less sympathetic so you need a good solid setup for the tone your trying to record. And the producer & sound eng's have the final word.. usually.

I just got my 120 Watt Blue Voodoo head yesterday, it sounds great. I'm wondering how it would sound with an eq and/or a Sonic Maxmizer.

Another thought just to add in here, is you won't sound like another player whether you're trying or not. You're always going to sound like you (which is a great great thing), and your equipment shouldnt matter that much. Ultimately it's a tool. I play on a lot of different rigs, and i always sound like me no matter what. i have a pivture of Stevie ray Vaughan playing thru a solid state fender amp at a show, and i'd bet that that night there wasn't a person who noticed it wasn't his usual tube amp.
Basically, with enough experimentation and tweaking you can get the sound you desire with any gear that's even in the ballpark. those mesas and marshalls are nice. i'm sure you'll get the sound youre looking for with either. i buy way too much gear looking for the sound i need, and it's really wierd when i have that sound with my main strat and a no-name practice amp.
Also, which mesa are you looking at? I have a marshall, but im more familiar with the sound of mesas. the nomads are really nice, and the blue angels... wow...the single rectifier head has 50 watts and is a monster of an amp. the dual is more powerful and has more gain, and the triple has the ability to overdo it in every way imaginable. keep in mind amps sound best when theyre cranked up loud, so a 100 watt head cranked WILL be too loud for every purpose unless youre playing an arena or trying to deafen yourself. you may be better off getting a head that you'll be able to push harder. i'm much happier with my 45? watt fender bassman head than my 100 watt marshall (which by the way i'll sell for $300 if you want it). well, anyway, enough rambling. take care
