morning...
recently i've trying to play Bon Jovi songs with my band, but I found a problem i can't solve...
In the new song (It's my life) and in Living on a prayer sambora uses a talkbox...does anyone have an idea how to make one? (or where to get one, cause the guitarshops in my town don't sell them!)
How does it work? I mean, do you sing into it, or do just use your mouth to make the sound?
I haven't got the slightest clue...So please help me...

are you talking about the thing Pete Frampton uses, they usually only cost like a $100 or so i beileive the products name is "Heil Talk" or something close to that if they don't have it in any guitar stores(probally cause it would be kinda pushing it if a person used it all the time) ask them if they can order it for you, most guitar stores i know will do that. i think the notes that you sing take on the sound the guitar makes, i had a freind who had one i didn't try it out cause that's a personal item like a jock strap or something. ok

peace out,

yo, you can learn more about how it works under the equipment section at www.frampton.com

it usually costs $150(my mistake) you can probally find it easier on the net than you can at stores.

Hey man, talkboxes are easy to make, if you need one. Buy a really really cheap microphone and plug it into you amp's output so that all your sound is coming out of the mic. I know this sounds strange, but trust me. put the mic on a stand where you can play your guitar. move your mouth around to make different sounds. you'll have to use another microphone to amplify the sound, because it's very quiet. if you want, you can put a plastic tube around the 1st mic to put inside your mouth. the vocal effect is more pronounced like this. hope that helped. i've had to do this the simple way in a pinch.

Hey, I've wanted a talk box lately... anyone heard how they work w/ a bass? and is the one that you can find in Musician's Friend any good?

From reading the description at musician's friend it seems you need

1. an amp
2. a mic
3. an amp for the mic (a P.A.)

It seems that the talkbox sends the guitar sound into your mouth, you get your mouth next to the mic, the mic sends the sound into the P.A., and then you get that talkbox effect.

Is this right?

Sounds too complex for me...

In case anyone cares about exact prices. The current Musician's Friend says it retails for $229 and they are selling it for $139.

OK....this is kind of tounge and cheek...so bear with me.
Joe perry use to use a home-made talk-box. He took a air-tight leather sac filled with air, ran a tube from it to his mouth. Now this part takes some talent. you have to manually squeez the sack with your elbow against the side of your body. You have to do this while strumming/picking you guitar (in other words, you have to squeez the air-bag and play your guitar at the same time). While doing that put you mouth up to a microphone. By squeezing the air into your lungs, you adjust the sound by moving you lips in variouse directions.
I have tried this before, but not with a mic. If I had a Mic. I think it would work.

I hope I was of some help. And I hope this dont confuse ya to much, if anyone else can explain this better, be my guest!!
Thankyou
