First of all, don't get stressed about it, because as you said, it is very hard and it is something that everyone has trouble with at a point. Basically, you have to learn one part, either the singing part of the playing part, inside and out so that you could do it in your sleep. Then once you get to the point where it comes naturally, try adding the other factor to the equation. I recommend starting with a simple song, like blowin' in the wind (chords: verse- G C D G chorus - C D G C) or time of your life (greenday)- G C D .

It's like what james said, but there are different methods. Insted of tapping my foot to keep the beat when i play, i play guitar when i sing. You have to know the song inside out to keep it in time, but sing to you guitar part don't play to your singing.

Hope I made sense.

I suggest trying to do it with a song that you sing along with and usually never know you are sing with it.

I know what you mean I can't sing and play to well on cover songs.. If it's one of my own songs, it alot e-z'er. I find songs where the melodie and the words fit together are alot e-z'er to sing and play...
Is it just me or does life suck? Maybe I suck and it just life? We shall never know...

Well my advice would be to first be able to hum the melody without words. Then hum and play the guitar. Then finally sing and play. Make sure to work through it slowly because as you said it's very hard. The more you do it the easier it gets.

I agree with James. The only way that works for me is the learn the music, then I play it & "sing" it in my head a couple of times before I try to sing it. I hope that it works for you, too!
