Nothing that shapes your tone is horrible. Your tone is your signature sound, and though this one probably won't do as much as a more expensive sonic maximizer, it's great for beginners.

I have a metal zone too, and while it's great for all sorts of distorted tones, I found it strangled the bass and ambience out of the sound, making it nasal. I'm not really talking about the tone, but just the amount of sound (not volume). It's like the difference between a huge explosion and a pistol shot. I've since switched to the overdrive on my Fender Ultimate Chorus, but sometimes I use the metal zone and the amp overdrive together. Nonetheless, it's a great, versatile pedal.
