I often play an alternative chord to the dominant 7th because it is a rather lovely sounding chord when playing a 12 bar blues. Can anyone tell me the name of the chord assuming it is a known chord!

Key of A at the 5th position but instead of playing an A7 my pinky is playing a G flat.

Answers please on a postcard! (sorry jokes aside!)

An A chord with a " Gb" would be an A6 chord but technically the note should be named then an F# to be an actual 6th note of that chord

That's an A dominant 13th. Or just A13. Nice sounding chord!

I cover voicings of 13th chords in this lesson, part of the series on extended harmony chords.

G-flat is the enharmonically the same note as F-sharp. And as Herman correctly mentioned it's better thought of as F-sharp in this context, because the key of A major has 3 sharps.

Hope that helps!
