I was given a friend's old student classical guitar three years ago, tried to learn with Justin Guitar, gave up after long enough to grow calluses and went to the piano. That's going really well, but it takes a level of focus I can't maintain for more than a couple of hours, max. Stuck here alone in the bush I thought I'd give the guitar a second chance now that I have a bunch of experience and patience learning to play music. Rhythm feels like my weak spot. I thought if I were having fun playing simple things on the guitar, that might help my rhythm.

So far, I really appreciate the structure of this site and Lisa's thorough lessons.

I wish I had a forum like this for piano.

Hello Lynn and welcome to GT. This is a really good site for those wanting to learn guitar. The core lessons are well constructed and there`s a great support system here, both at the instructor level and fellow aspiring guitarists.

Good luck !

Thanks for the welcome, Moose. Did you start when you joined this site, a year ago? I do believe I'm in the right place to make slow, but steady progress.

I played a bit when I was younger, then kids, career etc..... got in the way. Started on this site about 14 months ago. The core lesson curriculum here is better than any other site I`ve seen. Learned a ton. a nice community here too.

Having completed Lisa's lesson, playing and singing along with her "Walk Downtown" yesterday, I'm inclined to make that my practice for a few more days. There are a bunch of little aspects that get a bit better every time I play it. Or am I being too perfectionist and I should press on to the next lesson?

Hi Lynn

I don't see any issues with staying a while on a lesson or song you particularly enjoy and then moving on when it feels right to do so.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Hi Lynn,

I like your thought about staying with, and enjoying the song "Walk Downtown."

Your so-called 'perfectionist' streak is the plalce where you will put an extra layer of learning and finesse on your skills. That is awseome - because you will be building on that finesse as you continue to move forward.

Plus, it is good fun to have a song that you enjoy playing and singing - to keep 'in your pocket', should an occasion arise in which you'd like to share a song with someone!

Have fun - Lisa

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I'm a long way from playing and singing without the video. Maybe that's a level of perfectionism I hadn't dreamt of!

One step at a time...with love, patience, and enjoyment!

That's how we ALL got where we are, us musicians!

None of us were born knowing how to play a single note!
