Hi Mike,

A great lesson on House of the rising sun, love it and have almost got the arpeggio up to full song speed.

I see the time signature is in 12/8 with 2 chords per bar. Would it make any difference to have it in 6/8 with one chord per bar?

Thanks in advance

Hello Anthony! In this case, you could use 6/8 without any difference.

Sometimes there is a slight difference in feel between the 2 time signatures. But since there is a chord change on the first beat of every bar (in 12/8 as well as 6/8) you could use either.

Hi Mike,

Enjoying the tutorial on House of the Rising Sun.

would it be possible for you to write out the exact strings that are plucked for the chords as

I was unable to see the strings you were using.

can you also explain 16th notes in the context of this song.

Cheers

martin

Hi Martin, please refer to the notation for the song if you already haven't. The tab will show you exactly which strings are plucked.

If you need help reading Tab - check out this lesson:

https://www.guitartricks.com/how-to-read-guitar-tabs.php

The strings that are plucked change depending on which chord you are using. For the Am and C chords, you start with the 5th string and strum each string from there up to the first string and back. But this changes when you move to the D chord and also any chords that use the low string for the root - so reading and understanding the Tab in the notation window is the best way to go.

As for the 16th notes, they are a bit tricky as the plucking pattern is almost all 8th notes except for one spot per chord where you add 2 16th notes to the picking pattern. I recommend using the speed buttons on the left side of the video to slow down the performance and hear clearly where this is happening.

Please let me know how it goes!
