Hi all!

Just wondering what scales, modes and note choices I should be looking at to try and play Mick Taylor inspired improv, like on songs such as 'Sway,' 'Dead Flowers,' 'Shine a light,' 'Jiving sister fanny,' 'Dance little sister,' etc., where his lead just really stands out.

Kind regards,

Will

A lot of that stuff is just mixing major & minor pentatonic scales in a blues approach. Use the pentatonic boxes.

Target chord tones of the chords in the song as they happen. And make melodic phrases.

Learn the licks from the songs you like.

Hope that helps!

Must be something in the air. I was eyeing Mike Taylor's guitar licks on Rocky Mountain High today, gauging how much I have to learn till I can play them...
