I don't normally write long post but this one may be different. And I think there may be some inspiration to all beginners, especially if like me, you are a parent.
Today is Father's Day, so happy FD to all the dads out there. What I am doing this year is writing my son a song. This week my son and his girlfriend of 3 years broke up. What is a good father to do? Well, write him a song of course!
In January of last year I didn't know anything about music. I didn't know chords, the notes, any theory... nothing.
Today, I am working on his song. It's pretty simple: C-F-G-Am chords, but that's ok. I didn't say I was a good guitar player, just good enough that I can offer my son something heartfelt at a painful time. What a gift music is to all of us.
If, like me, the journey has had its ups and downs, and frustration looms, it really doesn't take much to put something together that is genuine and meaningful to those we care about.
So, some basic skills, a little bit of theory, and we start making music.
Best of luck to you on your journey.
This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
