Well, there used to be all these regional dance venues where big bands played and people would come from far and wide to dance and drink, frolic and what not.

I used to play tuba in an occasionally turing mickey mouse band (like Guy Lombardo's band) out of Chicago and we'd play these places. Usually these events were pretty well attended. The music was pretty good, the guys in the band were fun to hang with but the pay was only scale. Some of those band members were friggin great musicians. But anyway...

So some members of this band taught me about crown on the rocks during break and how to not get too messed up that you can't play properly. This was back in the day way before zoom.
