How come there's no theory course like for blues guitar, etc?

Primarily because the theory is integrated with the course material. Much of the music theory that is taught on the site is in the context of a course or tutorial because it is directly applicable to the material. It's important to keep your theory learning & your technique learning at roughly the same level. With that in mind, the GT courses contain the theory you need to know, when you need to know it.

So if you are a beginner, you start with the fundamentals courses & along the way you learn about intervals, scales, chords, chord progressions & reading music. All theory topics appplied to the material you are learning at that stage.

When you progress to one of the style courses you'll learn how to apply those theory concepts to the specifics of that style.

And I also have this collection of tutorials that focuses exclusively on music theory if you want to go deeper down that rabbit hole!

Hope this helps!

Thanks Chris. I can learn to play pretty much anything but I don't know much theory. It's a rabbit hole I've been going down with a rope back to the top but haven't taken the plunge. I just turned 48 though so it's probably time. :-)

Sounds like a plan! For your future reference, I include a lot of theory in my tutorials. Chapters 1-4 of my Fundamentals 2 starts with intervals, then builds to scales & chords, reading music.

Have a look at my directory for links to them.

If you like blues, then check out my series on Major Notes in Minor Pentatonic & Building a Blues Arrangement.

If you like rock, then my series on Sweeping & Building Speed has a lot of info.

If you like jazz, then my Intro To Jazz tutorials might be interesting.

And my collection of tutorials in improvisation go a long way into explaining the theory behind scales, keys & targeting chord tones in progressions.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. Best of success with it!
