This is a really good recommendation! I have not seen the DVD, but the first book is relatively accessible, gives an overview of techniques a nice sounding examples.

I think this might be as close as you can get without actually finding a teacher who can play Flamenco. Depending on where you live it might be difficult to find such a teacher.
