I have this song down Mike, except that outro lead guitar. I'm having a hard time getting up to speed and staying accurate. I'm not going to get frustrated with it though. After several hundred practice runs i decided to move on so i selected Beatles ''Saw Her Standing There''. That lead solo should not be a problem for me and its just a fun song. Does Tom Petty's music share anything with the Beatles sound, they seem to have a similar vibe or something on some songs. I'll go back to that outro lead later, as always thanks for the lessons they are some of my favorites....Seeya Mike!
American Girl solo

Hi Steven! Thanks for the update - sounds great! No doubt that fast lick at the end of American Girl can be tricky to get down -- but it's always good to get away from it for awhile then come back fresh and work on it again!
Definitely Petty was very influenced by the Beatles as well as the British Invasion as a whole - but he was also influenced by American bands like The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield.
Cheers!!
Mike
