plunk?
Hey, I own an Ibanez grx20x and its my first guitar and I really like the feel of it comapared to some other more expensive guitars I've tryed out but, when I play or record a trick I sound very plunky, if you know what I mean. I am trying my damndest to smooth things out and I love playing so I play all of the time. (started playing about 5 months ago) but it's not going real well in that aspect of my playing. My amp is a peavey transtube 258 which is cheaper but not my budget it isn't, what can I do here? Is it my guitar? would better pickups help? Any suggestions please.

get a new guitar thats not an ibanez.

Well it may just be your tone of the amp or the guitar. Mess around with it. Try on your amp (not sure if you have the same as me, but i have an ibanez, but i have a marshall) Bass-4 oclock treble-4 oclock mid(s)-12. Try it if it doesnt work just mess w/it

plus you should get a new amp, maybe a Fender Deluxe Reverb:D

I'm not sure I know what you mean by plunky. Do the strings sound dead, or does the tone sound weak. You may just need new, or a different brand of strings. I like GHS Boomers.

hi this is my first post & i have only had my guitar scince christmas... i was hoping id learn some new tips & stuff. btw by plunk do u mean punk or plunk (& i have no idea what that means lol!!)

What is plunky, really? I mean maybe it's just you... go to a music store they probably won't help unless you know of a good one. And if you know of a good one tell me, becuz the one i go to people have never even picked up an instrument sometimes and it's quite akward. Like you ask for some free pick and they're like, "what's that". Gah just the thought of those little yuppies running that store makes me ill... but maybe i should stop complaining and go to a new one? Yes.

by plunky, I mean very picky. When I do a solo you can hear every note being picked. Hammerons help but I can't hammer every damn note. I just want to know how not to be so picky in solo's, if that helps at all. Listen to my trick under Wes,metal,easy lick. You'll see what I mean. thanks for the help.

Tone don't come easy...and oft times it don't come cheap either.
I dig Fender...hence the name "fendermonkey"
However...with the stuff you have...and if you're tied to a tight budget...Try messing with all your tone knobs...try and bring your bass and mids out a bid...this may help your tone for now.

u guys are all talkin bout fender but what u really need is a peavey 5150 and if u dont think its a good AMP then ure wrong...... cause thats eddy van's amp of choice. Most of the time people blame their AMPS for having bad quality when really they are not properly educated on operating their amp. What i think is to check ure amp settings and go from there. its with your muscle development, legato can only help so much, you have to actually have strong fingers, which will come in time. Get a scale book!

you are weirdly reminding me of things in my town. At the music store in my town, most of the instruments have "DO NOT TOUCH!!!" all over them, and yeah the people there suck, especially now that its under new ownership.

I don't think I have the same amp as you - I got the one from the Ibanez package (IBZ10 I think). It sounds much less "plunky" when I turn the boost button on.
I know very little about guitar (let alone amps) yet, though, so don't take my word!

im unfamiliar with ibanez amps, i didnt know they made amps...:confused:, but anyways, im guessing by "boost" that is ibanez' way of saying "Distortion" or "gain", and of course its going to sound less plunky when you have distortion on, its because the distortion covers alot of the plunk up. thats one reason why there are so many crappy punk/metal guitarists.
