I stumbled on to this via Guitar World. Listen to the audio clip. It's about 15mins long. It is a breakdown of all the parts of Rosanna. In and of itself, was somewthing of a smooth rock hit in the early 80's. While you knew the musicianship was good, the song was so slick, how good it was seemed to be a bit hidden.

Though the article is title Lukather's Isolated Solo, it's about the whole song.

I think what it shows is how to build a song by the parts that comprise it. Some people write a song and others compose it. Compose, meaning that they are not just playing riffs and bass and drums full out but really thinking about what the song needs as far as what part matters where. It's like orchestration; the orchestra sections come in at different parts.

This song speaks to that.

I'm a big fan of this approach. Sometimes the real flavor of the songs is found in the collections of smaller parts to support an overall theme.

....that and these dudes can so play....
