So the song is pretty easy to play. My question is about the solo. The notes are all from the D Major scale but what chords are playing in the background of the song that this solo is being played over? The main chords are Em and G so I don't understand how a D Major scale works for the solo. What am I missing?

The notes are all from E pentatonic minor. This works perfectly because the solo it played over the E minor to G major chord progression of the verse.

I think I see this. The notes are A, B, E, D, G. E is the ii chord in the key of D. The ii chord is minor so playing the E minor pentatonic means the notes are also part of the D major scale. Is this correct?

No. There's no D chord. It's not in D major. The verse of the song and solo are both in the key of E minor. The solo uses the notes of the E minor pentatonic scale.

E, G, A, B, D.

Give it a try. ZZSmilieZZ
