What do you guys think about Amplitude 3? It looks like it has mostly good reviews. I found it from anywhere from $169.00 to $199.00. Looks like it has just about every kind of amp and effect one could want. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AmpliTube3e

I'm thinking of buying that and also the Alesis iO2 Express to plug in my guitar, which is about $64.00 to $99.00. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iO2exp

I just downloaded some free video editing software (Windows Movie Maker) and I'm pretty impressed. It's great for the price of free lol.

So with these three things:
1. The Amplitude 3 (to record the audio)
2. The Alesis iO2 (to plug in my guitar to use with Amplitude 3)
3. Windows Movie Maker (to sync up video and audio to make music videos)

That's pretty much all I need to make music videos right?

I'm fairly new to all this stuff.

I have been using Amplitube 3 quite a bit and like it. There are a lot of different amp simulators for computers out there so a lot of different opinions. You can download Amplitube 3 for free, you will only have access to a few amps and effects, but you can try it and see if you like it. There are also free amp simulators with a few amps. I am mostly using Amplitube.

You might need some software to record the audio too. I guess Amplitube can do some simple recordings and you can use Audacity which is free.

Amplitube has a free version called custom shop if you just want to try it out.
They give you quite a bit of stuff for free and you can try before you buy any of the other stuff they offer.

Step 1: Register for free account with IK Multimedia
https://www.ikmultimedia.com/userarea/newuser/index.php?REDIRECT=FREEPRD

Step 2: Download Amplitube 3 (Comes with small selection of pedals and amps)
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitube/

Step 3: Download Custom Shop (like the catalog of items for amplitube)
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/

Step 4: Launch Amplitube, log into it

Set 5: Open Custom Shop. Browse items and try for 2 or 3 days I believe for free.

It all works really well.

Thanks guys! All of this will be really helpful. I was hoping Amplitude will be enough for me to record. I think it has 4 tracks? That should be enough. All I would be doing is rhythm, lead, and drums. I don't think I would ever use more than 4 tracks for one video.

But I did notice the Alesis iO2 (which I just ordered) says this: "The Alesis iO2 EXPRESS comes complete with a copy of Steinberg Cubase LE digital audio workstation (DAW) software. Cubase is one of the most popular DAWs in the world thanks to its intuitive approach to composing, recording, editing, and mixing. In addition to the included software, the Alesis iO2 EXPRESS is compatible with virtually all audio and MIDI software."

So that would be everything I would need, right?

So I downloaded the free version, and while I'm waiting for my Alesis iO2 to arrive, I have the Rocksmith USB cable. I've plugged it in, I selected the Rocksmith USB as the input device, and I found out I had to download Asio4All. After I did that it works!

I finally figured out how to record multiple tracks in Amplitube. But I have two questions for anyone already using it:

- After I've laid down a guitar track, I can play it and then use things like wah-wah pedals to affect its sound after the fact. But it doesn't seem to adjust the recording. So do you have to already have all your effects set before recording? If so, then how can you use the wah-wah while you're playing?

- As far as the Custom Shop trials, can you record with those free trials of the amps and effects while you have them?

The trials are fully functional for the time period.

If you want to try Reaper (which I recommend) It has a fully functional trial that is not limited in anyway. You can even keep using it after 30 days with a nag screen only when you open it. Great to be able to really play with it and see if it works for you. I have grown to love it.

Okay I'll give it a try.

Do you have any input as to how to add effects to a recording after the fact in Amplitube? Like after I record a guitar track, I know I can add effects to it while it's playing. But I can't figure out how to apply them to the recording.

another bonus of reaper.

Record your track in Reaper. Then add an FX, Select Amplitube as the VST Plugin for it. Then you can try them out.

I've watched a few tutorials on the subject, but I'm still pretty confused. I guess it's just going to take some trial and error. I have no problem using the effects on a recording. But actually applying those effects to the recording so the recording will change, now that's still a mystery lol

Depends on the effects. If you are trying to add expression effects (such as a wah), you pretty much need to add that going in (i.e. - might be worth getting the Stealth Pedal and the whole deal). If you want to add reverb/compression/EQ, then you can add that as post-production.

You can add those things in post production in Amplitube? Or do you need another recording program?

If in Amplitube, I guess after I record something, if I crank up the Reverb on that particular track, it will save it with the added reverb when I export? I'll give it a try.

Not in Amplitube. You can add those things to your Amplitube amp set up. Meaning, In Amplitube, like any amp/effects set up, you have those available to make your sound. This is what will make your sound going in to the recording and will be permanent.

However, if you do not want to add those effect at the time you record but wait for later to add them, you do that in your DAW (recording program such as Reaper/Garageband/Pro-Tools etc).

Hmmm.... I guess this will just take some trial and error. I get what you're saying but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Hi..I have the exact same Alesis IO2 and it works very well..just make sure to turn down the Gain down to zero to get the full effect of the AMplitube fx or it will distort the sounds...make sure you also turn the one dial all the way over to USB so as to get the full volume from the guitar.
Reaper is the recording software I use and its awesome considering its free :)
I have recently bought GUITAR RIG 5 and the Rig KONTROL 3 pedal. Very impressed ! I would say that Amplitube is slightly more organic sounding than the Guitar Rig but I use both in different tunes.
Good Luck and ENJOY :)

Thanks for the info!

I noticed the knob that goes from "Direct" to "USB." But it's only on the right side of the device, and I usually plug my guitar cable into the left "Guitar Line Input."

Does that USB knob control both sides? Because I messed around with it and didn't hear any difference. Also there's a "Main Level" knob only on the right side.

Yes the Usb dial controls both sides of guitar in ports..the Main is the same as a Master Volume...yes it controls both guitar inputs as well.
Is there a way to PM me on this site ? ...I dont usually visit the forums so it would be a great way to know when someone wants to converse with me :)

Yeah I know there's a way to turn on private messaging, but now I can't find it! I thought it was in profile or Control Panel, but I don't see it. I'll just email you for now if that's cool
