First Time Sharing

I am working on Coming Back to Life by Pink Floyd. I recorded first 40 seconds so far. I am working on this every night. When done with the intro, I will record again and post. This will be a progression thread for me on this song.

Little over a year ago I picked up a guitar for the first time and signed up for GT. This site IS the reason I am still playing and loving it.

I removed the link, was reading in another forum about non-originals. oops.

sounds pretty good to me. I think the backing track makes it sound a lot better, but for a year that's pretty good.

Gilmour is my main influence...brave man taking a solo of his on to post first. :-) Very good so far...looking forward to the rest.

I have to agree i have learned the intro to that song,i had to i loved it that much..that was three years ago.but i never finished the whole solo,jumped into the chords instead.brave...the very beginin of that solo is alittle tricky
It may not sound tricky but it is,as i remember it.

What makes Gilmour tricky is not the notes but the nuances in his bends and vibrato. I read something somewhere or maybe saw a lesson where they described his playing as "the notes are always moving". Years ago when I learned the comfortably numb solos, I remember thinking "this would be a lot easier without all of these bends...eeek!". But the bends is what it's all about. It's been over 10 years and I still can't capture the true nature of those solos...but I keep trying. I think few players really can. It's deceptive because on the surface his solos are simple...yet they aren't.

That's amazing that you've been playing for little of a year and you've come this far. That's awesome!!

Yeah. I first looked at the notes and thought "Not to bad"...wow. Wrong! I picked this song for a couple reasons.

1. It is a great song
2. Because it is so complex it will be a good one to judge improvement on for a long time.
3. It is a great song!

The pure feeling and emotion he puts in his music is so amazing and inspiring.

Keep up with that tune.i wish i would of kept on learnin it.
And gilmore is one of my favorit players.
Its not all about how fast you can play a lick,rather then how you play that lick or a scale run ect.
See when you learn a song,you learn the technics that come with it.
Here is one way to practice ur half/whole step bending..
Say ur on the 7th fret of the g string,plug the 9th fret on same string and bend to you hear that picth on the 9th fret.thats a whole step bend.and do the same on the 8th fret bend to that note.and just keep doing that.then you can take it over too the b string and do the same thing.allot of the pros bend up too 5 fret picth,useing there trem bar of course.good luck....
