after a long layoff and am ready to get back into this. I am going to focus on She Talks to Angels (Anders) - one of my all time fav songs by maybe my all time fav band.

Trying to get into open G tuning. When I start to "retune" my A string I really feel like its going to snap. Las time I tried this I snapped the string, i did, and I can feel it getting ready to happen again.

Snapping strings only to restring is not fun and I don't want to quit again in frustration :). Any ideas?

I'm confused becuase your post title says "open d tuning" but in your post you refer to "open G tuning".

When you retune your A string, are you tuning it up to a G or down to a G. You would have to REALLY tension the A string to break it so I'm guessing you are tuning up.

I think what you want to do is detune the A string a step to acheive G.

Hi Bonafan1,

Do you change your strings often? I know if they're old they break much easier.

Open tunings are a lot of fun to mess around in.

Yeah if they are old, I would change them. I almost always only snap strings when they are old. It has happened veeeery rarely when they are new.
