I am a brand new player with only a couple weeks under my belt. This will be the 3rd time I have bought a guitar with the intentions of learning. But, they say, 3rd time is the charm. The first two times I did nothing with it. This time I have 3 kids who play musical instruments, so I have a connection more than ever.

This time I am practicing min of an hour each night. I was going thru and doing youtube videos, or various free lessons on the net while I waited for my lessons at local guitar shop started until I found this site. Now I stopped my lessons and and focusing on here. Saving $$ and getting more lessons.

Welcome...and good for you!! 2 of my kids are learning piano, so I know what you mean. If they can do it, why not you, right!?!?

I've played on and off throughout the years and I've found this site to be an awesome resource and to be much better than private instruction. You've come to the right place! The moderators and instructors here are super responsive and helpful when you have a question, so don't hesitate to post.

Have fun!

Yes! Just reading thru the site (while at work), I can see how well laid out the site is with progression as you advance. Love how every little bit is broken down and makes it easy to stay at something till you get it and also to go back to a section easily.

Biggest thing I have been having issues with is simply, fingers reaching. I went thru the finger stretches video and was amazing how just that little bit loosened me up!

Things like that is making this site MORE than worth it to me.

Welcome, Mark! And thanks for the kind words. Practicing with your kids will be a great motivation too. Perhaps a family band is in your future?

Hey Mike,

You're the second person I've heard say recently that their kids inspired them to play again. An hour a night will get you far! And how cool is it for the kids to be able to jam with dad?! :)

It has been great. We have guitar, flute, trumpet, piano, violin, drums, and recorder being played.

It is so much fun. As I was going thru Sweet Home Alabama tutorial on here, my daughter started playing it on flute by ear.

I have already progressed farther than ever before and I have to thank this site for that!

Wow, sounds like you have some natural talent in the family. There's nothing better for kids than a house full of music and instruments. Your kids are lucky!

Welcome...Illinoisan too...Just outside the Chi suburbs...where it's MUCH cheaper to live.

Glad you're have a great time learning. I've been playing for years and still like learning stuff...It's why I'm here.

The fun is not just to try to master but that when you think you 'got it down', there's always something else cool to try out on guitar.

Have fun!!

...and for the record...I've recently picked up the mandolin and piano....Wow what a drag to be a newby again...but still fun :)

ThorfinnFrisken,

You're lucky to be in an isolated house. It's always on my wish list when it's time for a move. This time I took a spare bedroom and lined it with soundproofing blankets, I can play drums and no neighbors complain (about the noise level anyway)

Yeah. It is great. Building a room in my basement for music now. Will be dedicated to it.
