I have an american strat and fender mustang amp and I have been using Super bullet 10s. I don't seem to be able to get that tone quality that Anders can get. Could it be the strings.

Tone comes from your hands first. When you play with conviction, your tone shines through everything.

However, strings make a difference for me. I've used D'Addario XL's since I started playing (oh so many, many years ago). To my ear, they have a little more life or brightness to them.

Yes it could

.....it could also be your guitar, your amp, your hands, your fingers, the temperature in the room, etc. If you think it might be the strings, buy a different set and see.

DR strings with the round core have the best sound hands down. The TITE FITS. DR DDT's are the best for down tuning c and below.
Try them I am positive you will like them.
The other thing is to have active pups like EMGs. They make ALL the difference in the world.

I agree with Jeff and Hunter. Tone as a lot to do with the hands. The more you "own" your instrument the better it/you will sound.

I have had a fender american strat for 6 years now and I remember when I purchased it. It sounded ok but nothing like stevie ray vaughan's strat :) (he's the main reason why I bought a strat).
But 6 years later, lots of practice and hard work, I'm a lot better and a lot more confident, witch shows in the guitar's sound.
I recently changed the pick ups also for a more vintage 60's/70's sound. That also helped getting "The" strat sound.
I heard Buddy Guy say once that the reason why Stevie Ray Vaughan had such a great tone was because he showed the guitar who was the boss. He "owned" the instrument.
Off course strings will help with the sound but the player makes the biggest difference.

Stevie Ray Vaughan punished his instrument... hearing John Mayer talk about string choices was really put me into a good mind frame... Basically he said no one can play the way Stevie did for a whole set with .13 guage strings... if you did your arm would fall off. So that was when John Mayer decided that string choice wasn't about being a man... it was about knowing your limits. If you can't bend the string up to the note you want... you're using a guage of string that's too high. Some people get by fine wtih .11's or .12's.... some people need .10's it's a comfort thing as well.
