Ah, hi, first time here, not sure where to begin.

I bought a little electric guitar for my 10 yr. old daughter for Christmas.

She loves to sing, and actually rocks it at any karoake place we go, so i thought, you know............ Taylor Swift.....lol.

Anyway, i went to and showed her a couple web sites and how to do a chord or two and looked up a basic scale for her to practice. She tries, sort of, will play with it for 15 - 20 minutes almost every day, but doesn't have a clue.

I got here by searching for reviews on a product by Claude Johnson, (anyone heard of his supposed learn guitar the easy way program?). I was thinking of getting it for her, but.... you know, the too good-to-be-true syndrome usually is (too good).

So now that I am here, any advice?

Thanks
mjg

Hi mjg,

I would start out with the Core Learning System where the pace is nice and slow and you really get a solid foundation for learning guitar:!

Check it out here: http://www.guitartricks.com/corelearningsystem.php

Hi Michael & Welcome ;)

I'm a beginner myself, progressing through the Core Learning program with instructor Christopher Schlegal and I would definitely recommend it.

The dedication, expertise and on-line lessons of the GT instructors are second-to-none.

Hope you and your daughter enjoy them as much as I have.

I showed her the link today. We looked at the intro video. Do I need to subscribe or are the lessons the same? I don't mind paying for it if she does it / will do it... just want to make sure she will use it/practice.

Thanks

Thanks, it looks pretty good. I unfortunately don't have the time to go thru it, but hoping she will. I watched the first video with her today. Will keep an eye on her / her progress.

I'm a new member and really don't know where to start. I started playing the guitar one year ago. I feel that I am at a stopping point and need some guidance. Any suggestions.

Nick
first of all welcome here.
start with the guitar fundamentals 1 and 2. It is always worth. But a lot depends on the level you are now, as Gordon rightly pointed out.

Carmine
