These are in no particular order:
1. Paradise City - Slash (the outro solo kicks ass)
2. Heartbreaker - Jimmy Page
3 No More Tears - Zakk Wylde
4. Alive - Mike McCready
5. Fade to Black - Kirk Hammett

Can I just say, no way is Sweet Child o Mine, Slash's best solo. It's the one guns song everyone knows but it's not the best. Don't get me wrong I love the song, one o the first I learnt.

I'd say that Slash's best solo is the one at the end of November rain... Dude, I used to listen to it all day long...

November Rain is a good solo. It has **** tonnes of emotion in, which is one of the most important things as a guitar player.

i agree that the solo at the end of november rain is amazing, i love listening to it, the same goes for the end of paradise city. However I also think that sweet child o' mine has tonnes of emotion in it, particularly the start and i love the way it changes speed. I dont care whether you guys think its their best but i say it is by far.

Well I wrote a replay for this tread earlier but I´ll just have to do it again. I´m gonna name few players and their best solo (my opinion). It´s actually much easyer ´cause there are lot lot lot of good things. This are my most fav. guitar players and I enyoj both listening and playng to following stuff:

Yngwie J. Malmsteen John Petrucci
1. Far Beyond The Sun 1. Under A Glass Moon
2. Rising Force 2. Fatal Tragedy
3. Cryng 3. Home
4. Triology Suite Op. 5 4. Lie
5. Magic Mirror 5. Voices

Joe Satriani Slash
1. Surfing With Alien 1. Estranged
2. Chrusing Day 2. Civil War
3. Summer Song 3. Paraidise City
4. Always With Me... 4. Nightrain
5. Driving At Night 5. You Could Be Mine

Kirk Hammett Steve Vai
1. Orion 1. Tender Surender
2. Wherever I May Roam 2. For The Love Of God
3. One 3. Bad Horsie
4. Damage Inc. 4. Crossroads/Guitar Duel
5. Struggle Within 5. Touching Tounges

You gotta admit for tone and generally well placed notes the
solo in aqualung should be included. Martin Barre has got that ballsy tone with just a touch of feedback that made me pick up an axe in the first place.
But on the other hand I agree with the writer that said "how do you pick out just five"
okay grog go now
Grog go now! Make noise!

I would have mentioned Under A Glass Moon if so many people did not already post it. I like the solo a lot and I have to agree that it is one of the harder Petrucci solos. It is much harder to play than it sounds. His ingenuity/technique is amazing. I also believe that Kirk Hammett is really overrated. If someone unplugged his wah wah pedal he would be hard pressed to solo. As for the 5 best? ...there are way too many to narrow it down to 5.

I have to say I love Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.I first heard the song on the "conair" soundtrack, that part in the plane a while before Cyrus the virus is killed and fell in love.By the time the movie was over and the song played again,I was nodding and dancing to it like I've known it all along.

Under A Glass Moon solo is amazing but I don´t find it that hard. Another amazing solos by Petrucci are Erotomania (the last one), Voices (lot of cool penta stuff mixed with some wicked stuff as well), Lie (the last one is amazing. If you want to learn that one be sure to pick all those 16-notes at the end part), Fatal Tragedy (probably the best and absolutly the hardest one for me) and Home (I just love solos with Phyrgian scale and for that matter try Metallicas Wherever I May Roam).

Another cool stuff is Vai´s For The Love Of Good, Surfing With Alien and Summer Song by Satch, Far Beyond The Sun is the best song I´ve heard with Yngwie, there´s lot cool stuf with Racer X and Rhoads/Lee/Wylde combination is one of worlds best. Another amazing stuff that I can´t play ´cause I only got 22 frets on my guitar is Serrana by Jason Becker.

But advanced solos are not always the best ones. Just listen to Dire Straits, Guns N´ Roses, Bon Jovi and you´ll fin tones of good stuff. Hotel California solo by eagels is very very nice and yet very very simple. But of course, it can be hard somtimes to get the right feelin´.

On fatal solo beggining, I think John picks 3 and pull off 3 notes during the whole run. It´s damn hard cause of those insane shifts. Another thing that´s pretty rough is the part when he plays fast tremolo picking at 12 on E string, 14 on A string and all that run all the way to 12-14-15 triplet octave run wich also includes a pretty hard sweep. So intro and that one is the hardest.

Since I love chromatic runs, I always enyoj when I come to the finish of under a glass solo. That chromatic run is very cool and yet very simple. What do you think about Lie and Erotomania end solo if you ever tried them?

And yes, I think it rules, but I'm afraid it's not a guitar solo. It's a famous classical piece.

I kind of thought it was a classical peice, but the contect in which it was presented in the movie qulifies it as a solo. IMHO.

Are you sure that it was Vai who recorded it for the movie ´cause I think it´s some other guy. But I know that you can find E.T.B. on one of Vai´s new CD´s.

PS. Vai got the role in the movie thanks to his song from one of Flex Abel CD´s called Attitude Song. Have you heards a song called Litle Green Man by Vai. That one is really f*ucked up.

There´s lot of wicked stuff on those CD´s. Some good, some bad. My fav. are Little Green Man, Vivid Woman, Atitude Song and Boy Girl Song. There are some more but I can´t come up the titels.

Let´s jump to the movie subject. I´m very impressed of Maggio boy our what´s he called ´cause that stuff looks too damn real. Especially those octav jumps. How did they do it, does anyone know. Did they speed it up our somthin´ (his fingers of course)

I own 7th song CD too and my fav. are For The Love..., Touching Tounges, Tender Surrender. Other songs are good to but these are the best. By the way, For The Love Of Good is amazing to play on the guitar. Not extremly difficult but kicks ass. It´s very good practice for the feel (bend, vibratos, slides) and of course for the speed.
