Slightly off topic, I suppose. I think I'm in the market for a PA amp. I don't have a lot of cash, so it'll be some solid state kind of thing. (Currently getting by with an old guitar amp running thru a PA speaker.)

My question is, would I use a similar power comparison as I would comparing SS and Tube Guitar amps?

What I mean is, we're running tube amps in the 50 watt range. It seems logical to get an amp that can at least keep up with that. But, if I double that (for SS), I end up with 100 watts per channel and that seems really, really low compared to all but the smallest PA's.

Also, should I consider a system with individually powered speakers, or a power amp? I can see benefits to both, but am inclined to go for an amp and passive speakers.

Anyone's thoughts or experiences on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
