Hey all,

We're looking to put together some artist studies based on the techniques and ideas of some famous metal guitarists. Who would you like to see a tutorial on, and why? It can be rhythm or lead, new or old.

Post your reply here, or in the subscriber's section.

Thanks!

-Carl.

Tom Morello. I remember listening to the first RATM album and being suitably impressed, then reading the inlay and completely refusing to believe there were no synths or samples used during recording. I've seen them either side of the split, and the thoughts that persist in my head are 'HOW? HOW?'

Other notables would be Kirk Hammett and Billy Corgan (if you'll forgive shoehorning some hard alt-rock into a metal nominations list).

Rage Against the Machine is not Metal....neither is Billy Corgan. Not to say he isn't talented, but if you're doing studies on metal guitarists....it would make sense to talk about metal guitarists.

How about Marty Friedman, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Randy Rhoads, or Tony Iommi to name a few.

Gotta love Jerry, so how does he do it? How can you get that distinctive AIC sound?

George Lynch! His sound is so dark and original with his use of flatted 5ths, screaming harmonics, wicked vibrato, and searing solos. Not to mention that his rythm playing is outstanding as well. I believe that it would be a very popular series if done right.

Oli Herbert from All That Remains or Jonathan Donais from Shadows Fall. Just a couple suggestions. Also, Randy Rhoads.

Robin Trower or Roy Buchanon. Just my opinion.

Michael Schenker
Dimebag
John Sykes
Slash
Nigel Tufnel
Yngwie Malmsteen

Just to name a few. Not all my preference but I think a list that is worthy of consideration.

Yep that's exactly how. It was the only line I was willing to wait in. Went home right after that.
