I've never tried a ' workstation ', but I have the Digitech Artist RP100R modelling guitar processor.
There is no hum or hiss which makes it ideal for digital recording, its output however is too loud for the mic input of a PC, so i've added a very simple inexpensive volume control ( 470Kohm potentiometer ).
