Cliff Gallop, the original guitarist for Gene Vincent, is
probably one of the most creative and technically adept
players of the rockabilly genre. Many jazz influences in his playing but he rocks with the best of 'em. I also find that Don Lanier, who played with Buddy Knox and Jimmy Bowen as one of the Rhythm Orchids, is great to listen to for some basic (simple?) but highly effective rockabilly. Give a listen to "C'Mon Baby," "Party Doll," and "Rock Your Little Baby to Sleep" for some inspiration. Lastly, and this stuff may be hard to find, Carl Mann's guitarist on
"Mona Lisa" and other tracks just about says it all for over-the-top rockabilly. I think his name was Eddie Bush -- from the Memphis school of rockers. Cheers.
