How about a contest showing unusual stuff on guitar you can do, that nobody else can do?
Like stretching further than anybody, playing behind your back, picking with your teeth, playing with your feet, solving a Rubics cube while doing Eruption....
You have to show a picture or a video to prove it.
Hey you kids! Get outta that Jello tree!!

I can do a tapping solo and recite Shakespeare at the same time.
I'd be interested to see how far people can stretch too.
Stay tooned... gotta make a video.

That doesn't look comfortable.

I can go from 5-12 without a whole lot of effort on the high and low E, but can go 5-13 on the low E, but that's pushing it till hammer-ons and pull-offs are sketchy.

I'm from 5 to 12 on all 6 strings... unfortunately I don't have a camera so you'll have to take my word on it until I can get proof.

thats too awesome dude...

BTW, how do you play so cleanly when tapping with such less distortion? Do you tie a hankerchief by the nut to dampen them out? cause thats what I do am just wondering...

I sometimes use a hairbraid thing like on this page:

http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=1877

..but for that one I didn't use anything ... it's just muting with stuff like the thumbs and palms of both hands.

heh... wow... nice comment. Major thanks

I wouldn't say better by any shot.... I learned a whole load of stuff from EVH and Alex Lifeson but I still get blown away with some of the stuff they do.
Especially EVH in concert. Like.... holy crap.

I had never heard or seen much of Alex Lifeson until I watched the Rush in Rio DVD. I must say, I was impressed and enjoyed his playing, and also enjoyed his stage presence. Defanately an underrated guitarist.

I watched that Rush video on TV last night. Like, totally blow me away with how old they looked. Especially Alex Lifeson.
I've got an old VHS tape from back in 1984 that I threw in while I was watching it and started a/b'ing the two. ALex had a typical 80's hairdo and was jumping all over the stage and Neil Peart had hair down his back.

Now Alex is just standing still and balancing his guitar on his beer belly while
Neil Peart is wearing a hat to cover his bald spot.

Gotta say though.... they rock like hell and it brings back memories of when
bands were actually talented and more concerned with the music and technicalities of their playing than just playing open chords and trying to look cool.

It brought back major memories too..... listening to 2112 in my friends Bug smoking a huge pipe and filling the car with so much smoke you couldn't see outside.

The freaky part was I didn't realize how much Alex Lifeson had influenced my own playing style. Especially that open 1st and 2nd string on chords like barred A, G and B.
I think I spent more time doing air drums to Rush than the guitar parts cause I still know all the rolls.

On a side note: it's too bad that Geddy Lee was forced to stop screaming with his voice years ago. I remember way back when he was told by doctors that if he didn't stop screaming he'd ruin his voice so all the albums after 2112 were a little lacking in the vocal department. You can tell in the video that he's purposely avoiding the high notes.

And another side note: Geddy Lees mom runs a store on main street here in Newmarket so if you ever wanna gab with her or get memorabelia, just head down to main street.

I play barred chords like that a lot! I never knew where I got it from, but now that you mention it, it could be from Alex. I think Rush is one of the more talented bands around. Alex is a great guitarist, Geddy's a great bassist, keybordist, and vocalist, and Neil is a fenominal drummer and a good songwriter. They are defanately a very tight band when playing live. My only complaints would be Geddy's vocal tone (still enjoyable though), and Neil's playing just seems a little stale or lifeless at times. I know it's just the way he is, but I prefer John Bonham style drummers. I think comparing the two is like compairing say Yngwie (technique) to Slash (feelings). Maybe not the best example, but you get the idea.
