classic rock songs with amazing guitar

i need a classic rock song with guitar as the lead... well like vocals arent the center of attention, where the guitar can take over. cause me and my friends are gonna play a song for our talent show but our singer isnt good at all so if guitar was the center of attention not many people would remember us as having crappy vocals, but having awesome guitarists...

Voodoo Child- Jimi Hendrix
Highway to Hell- Ac/dc,

Hope this helped, I'd do voodoo child myself, it only has maybe 5 lines of lyrics and then its all guitar from then on out.

And Like Blues-man said, Voodoo Child would be a good choice.

If you're up to it... take a Stevie Ray Vaughan song... He wasn't a great vocalist outside of the blues genre... Same goes for Hendrix...

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady... all good choices that the crowd will (should) recognize.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Mary Had a Little Lamb (I love it), Tin Pan Alley, Texas Flood... Good blues guitar songs with great guitar work

Maybe Try something in the lines of some classic Black Sabbath????

If you're going for the entertainment factor make sure you do a song that will be recognizable by most of the crowd... that way they get into it... otherwise you'll lose them pretty quickly. Its hard to think of good classic rock songs that would be instantly recognizable that don't have an instantly recognizable vocalist to go along with them... Led Zep, Ac/Dc, The Stones... etc.

Have you considered doing an instrumental song? Or is a case of the vocalist thinks he's singing and it's too late to change your mind? 'Albertross' is never a bad bet (Fleetwood Mac's still classed as rock these days, right?)

For songs that have vocals, but the guitar can take over, what about 'Sunshine Of Your Love' by Cream?

Black Sabbath's not a bad suggestion either...'Iron Man' or 'Paranoid' instantly spring to mind, but there's tonnes of other's to choose from. Asch is right, the crowd will be more likely to get into, (and not actually care how good or bad it is) it if they know the song - even if it's shockingly simple...having played in various pubs and clubs, as well at school gigs in my "youth", it doesn't matter how good you are, people ultimately want to hear the songs they know. (Which reminds me, 'Freebird'...consider 'Freebird'!)

Definately look into some SRV or Hendrix songs though, I'm liking the suggestions made already...

Being as hendrix is my favorite guitarist I would recommend him make sure you have a decent wah pedal!!

EDIT well in that case i would also recommend money by pink floyd maybe crowd recognizeable?but the base, drums, lead, rythmn work are all nice

I would say little wing by jimi hendrix but its hard for most to duplicate Hendrix's voice

I've allways thought Stevie was an OUTSTANDING singer with an excellent falsetto and that his vocal ability allways was overlooked because of his fabulous skills as a guitar player....

Going Down by Freddie King is a good one with few vocals that you can improvise all over, and it's been covered by a bunch of rockers...

Hocus Pocus by Focus...can your guy yodle? lol

SRV or hendrix is are good ideas. also maybe check out some clapton (never one of the best singers!) layla might be a good one.

hopefully (depending on how classic rock your audience is) they'll know them and sing along, giving your singer a chance to strut about not needing to sing :D

Doesn't matter if something is so amazing, you have one bad thing and they'll remember it. To most people who are not musicians, the vocals ARE the centre of attention.

Ozzy Osbourne "Bark at the moon" -the song itself is not classical but jake's guitar playing has a base in classical guitar. This song is amazing. I love classical guitar in metal.
