what is the diffrence between an overdrive pedal and a distortion pedal.... what do each of them do?

An overdrive is a bit smoother, and warmer and simulates a tube amp.
Distortion is not as smooth, a little more in your face.
I am Comfortably Numb... :D

and yeah overdrive is smoother and the distortion is a little more on the edge, like the stuff you'd hear in metal and hard rock music.
