hey well i was looking at the epiphone galaxy and valve amps... those $200 5 watt ones... well it says it has a knob for gain, but people say it has no distrtion... now i thought gain and distortion were the same thing... whats the diffrence? and will a distortion pedal help? cause my friend has one and it sounds the same on my crappy 15 watt amp and his 1200 watt mixer with speakers...

I have no experience with epiphone amps, but when people say it has no distortion, they probably mean that it has a very weak distortion. and yes, if you have an amp that sounds good when played clean, then a distortion pedal can definately help.

get an overdrive pedal...distortion pedals end up sounding like solid state pieces of trash for the most part and if you're going to be getting a tube amplifier like the epiphone amps are, all you need is a good push from an overdrive pedal to get the good distortion.

....what sounds the same on your 15 watt amp? distortion pedal? probably so....
okay...my post is done...goodbye.
