Hi guys, my name's Mike, and sorry if this has been asked a ton before, but I'm new and I was wondering: What are the conditions that need to be met before you can use an avatar?

(I frequent other boards and I know how annoying and repetitive this question can ask, but I couldn't seem to find any literature on it in the forum.)

Anyway, thanks if you can help.

-Mike

I'm pretty sure u have to be a high bandwidth member...like me. That means putting down 5 bucks a months. It really is worth it tho. 5 bucks is a bargain for the wealth of info on this site. I subscribed to another site...which will remain nameless...and i dont feel i got my moneys worth. This site tho...it's amazing...and 5 bucks is a toal bargain. I say go for it if u can. Rock on buddy!

Thanks, and yes, I'll definitely think about that.

Another quick question, what are these Reputation points? And apparently I have ten of them, lol?

On people's posts there's a scale in the upper right hand corner. You click that to add to their reputation if they were particularly helpful, like for instance answering newbie's questions ;) . Truthfully I don't even pay much attention to them though.

You have to be really cute with an absolutely amazing talent for being fair and not turning into a head case with delusions of grandure.

Basically, I think you need to be a member in good standing for a period of time... like 6 months or a year with a good number of posts. Gotten to the point where we know who you are and have gotten to know you. You need to be the kinda person who can post without being a total idiot or using swear words, or getting into flame wars.
You have to have enough brains to be able to deal with people on a professional level and be dedicated enough to stick with it.... ie, a regular reader who hangs around here a lot and reads a whole bunch of posts.

I'm going to try my best, and maybe one day I'll be respected enough to be a moderator.

Well of course if you're about 18 with an awesome body and can provide pictures it'll definitely speed up the process.

In the unlikely event that I would be offered the opportunity to become a mod, I'd probably pass it up. I don't know if I can handle the responsibilities that come with it. Of course this is just hypothetically speaking. Not like I'm being offered left and right, nor do I expect to be, so, y'know. It's very "if you won the lottery what would you do?" How many of us win the lottery? So how much do we know about what we'd do?

Best thing to do is write Jon. He's the ultimate decision maker on mods.
... of course you could always slip me a few 20's and I could grease the wheels for ya... :p

That's what being a mod should be.
Walk softly and carry a big stick, like the saying goes.

Set an example by how you act in the forums and just do what ya normally do. When somebody gets out of line or posts spam or whatever, go in and edit their post or erase it, then if it's really bad send a private message to the guy. Most of the time, I'll just go in and move a post or erase a few words or whatever.
If the spammer still doesn't get it and keeps acting like a jerk, ban him.
Then from then on we can track his IP number and he'll never post here again.
Then if he tries to keep signing on under different names we can contact his ISP and file an a abuse complaint. Most places will cut off his service.

Most times it never gets to that though. Guitar Tricks has a reputation for being a place where you can actually have intelligent discussions without worrying about jerks ruining it for everybody else.
