My iTunes Library has litterally gone from SRV's Little Wing to grindcore to an acoustic Ben Harper song and I liked it...

Aha
Ravels Bolero
Grace Jones, Slave to the Rythm

Nobody ever believes me. Thing is, the Partridge Family was all the best L.A. session musicians from the 70's, Abba is amazing pop songwriting, Aha is great synth pop songwriting and great production value, Bolero is about 15 minutes long and has every instrument of the orchestra introduced one at a time until the big finalé. And Slave is music by Trever Horn who is probably my biggest influence when it comes to doing multitrack stuff. I think the album is actually a Trever Horn demo that was half finished and as an afterthought they added some Grace Jones vocals and a whole bunch of annoying voiceovers. The music sounds great on a good system with subs.

After that it's probably stuff like Supertramp, Crime of the Century... great production by Ken Scott who's my other biggest influence and one of those hidden meaning, all about life albums.
Then maybe Saga, Rush, Hemispheres and 2112.

You have to play all the original LP's though. There's no way you can play MP3's of any of that stuff and hope to hear it the way it's supposed to sound.
After 30 minutes of listening to digital recordings, my eardrums literally start to itch like crazy.

Techno. I save the metal for my alarm clock.

I can never figure out what Techno actually is. Like, I list my own stuff as Techno but half the time I've got people telling me it's in the wrong category.
What groups best represent what Techno actually is?

Techno is one of those rather fluid words that has basically come to mean whatever you want it to. There's no clean way to draw the lines between techno, dance, trance, or house music, and it's generally better not to try.

Ok.. any of these bands ring a bell with anybody or is my record collection hopelessly outdated?
I constantly have people who go through my albums & CD's and don't have a clue who any of these bands are.

I never expected this thing would stay on-topic, anyway.

Well generally I'll make comprehensive playlists and choose depending on mood...called total heaviness (Pantera, Slayer, Soulfly, Deadhorse), mega classical guitar, All Zep (enough volume and variety by itself), and guitar playalongs (hard to listen through without picking up the axe). As far as deadbeat zone out kinda stuff, I got a list for that too: epic cool, which as it sounds is some longer more somber stuff like Tea For One and Achilles Last Stand (Zep), La Villa Strangiato and 2112 (Rush), Concierto de Aranjuez (all three movements), and Stranglehold (Nugent).

I have alot of stuff on my playlist, and i just let it run thorugh when I'm surfing the web, I got a little bit of Metal (Pantera, Guns n Roses, Mudvayne), Some Classic Rock (Steve Miller Band, Grand Funk Railroad, Billy Joel, Queen), some Motown and Soul (Temtations, Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder, Marvin gaye), I also got my punk (Green Day, The Clash), and even my rap, ( Public Enemy, Jurassic 5, Fat Joe, and NWA). I have a big variety, and my mood doesn't matter, i just listen.
