My playing has improved out of sight since I joined (and I'm not even a high-bandwidth user). That said, it still stinks.

Hmm, I'm writing a string quartet...does that count as an accomplishment?

I'd say so, man. It isn't every person in the street who can write a string quartet. :)

I'll try to post it when I'm done with the first movement (a fugue). Though it'll be a midi file, the quality will be pretty good (Sibelius), unlike powertab midis.

ok, so if you just make this music with only your computer... then how do you get both male and female vocals on there?

The male vocals were done by me first. That was a really early recording so from what I can remember, I used a cheap aria mic through a behringer mixer, straight into the computer.

The female vocals were done by Ruth Cocherelle over the internet.
www.rootmusic.com
She downloaded the instrumental and we corresponded about what I was looking for. Then she sent a test MP3. I think she used an SM58 using Cubase SL.
Once we settled on a final vocal for her, she recorded 12 to 18 isolated vocal tracks at home, using her own equipment.
She did about 18 takes, and then sent them to me by mail on CDR.
When it arrived I took all 18 vocals and imported them into the song.
I go through and pick the best takes off each vocal and piece them together.
Then apply vocal processing like compression, reverb etc..
and mix it into the final song.

Actually, I kept a log during the making of those early songs so ya see for yourself..

Accomplishments, eh? Well, I created a soundclick page for my music, and some people seemed to like it (or at least pretended to). That's an accomplishment in my books.

Well, I started actually writing songs. I should get some solo acoustics on the site. I also started singing in front of people, and I think I'm starting to improve, so that's an accomplishment. Although I don't know how much these had to do with GT. In fact I would probably practice more without it :p
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

So do I. Techno-rock is groovin. I might get into that stuff pretty soon, my friend makes techno and I've been wanting to make a song with him for a while. In fact, we made up a cool song on the piano just moments ago that's itchin' to be techno/rock-ified.
